Overview
BS 10 Blank Plate / Blind Flange is manufactured in accordance with British Standard BS 10, designed to seal the end of a pipeline, valve, or pressure vessel opening.
With no center bore, the blank plate provides a secure and pressure-resistant closure, allowing for system isolation, pressure testing, and future pipeline expansion.
BS 10 blank flanges are widely used in water supply, fire protection, HVAC, oil & gas, and general industrial piping systems, particularly in the UK, Africa, Middle East, and other Commonwealth markets.
A BS 10 Blank Plate Flange is a solid circular steel plate with evenly drilled bolt holes to match mating BS 10 flanges of the same table rating.

To ensure safe operation and reliable sealing, follow the steps below:
Verify Specifications
Confirm size, table rating (D/E/F/H), material, and bolt pattern match the mating flange.
Inspect Flange Faces
Ensure sealing surfaces are clean, smooth, and free from scratches or debris.
Select Suitable Gasket
Choose gasket material based on pressure, temperature, and service medium
(rubber, CNAF, PTFE, or spiral wound gasket).
Align Bolt Holes
Position the blank plate flange accurately against the mating flange.
Tighten Bolts Evenly
Use a cross-tightening sequence and apply torque gradually and uniformly.
Leak & Pressure Testing
Conduct hydrostatic or pneumatic testing after installation to confirm sealing integrity.
Note: Always follow recommended torque values and gasket manufacturer guidelines.
FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between a blank plate and a blind flange?
In BS 10 applications, the terms are often used interchangeably. Both refer to a solid flange used to close a pipeline end.
Q2: Can BS 10 blank plates be used permanently?
Yes. They are suitable for both temporary isolation and permanent pipeline closure, depending on system design.
Q3: How do I choose between Table D, E, F, or H?
Selection depends on operating pressure, temperature, and application. Higher tables indicate higher pressure capability.
Q4: Are BS 10 blank flanges interchangeable with EN 1092 or ANSI flanges?
No. BS 10 flanges differ in dimensions and bolt patterns and are not directly interchangeable with EN or ANSI standards.
Q5: Are custom sizes or coatings available?
Yes. Custom dimensions, materials, coatings, and markings can be supplied upon request.
